2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Response
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full text from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. After several months of talks, he officially joins us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben soon. We are all eager to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
